Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu is a type of massage therapy that was primarily developed in Japan. With its name derived from the Japanese term for “finger pressure,” it involves applying pressure to specific points on the body, moving from one point to another in a rhythmic sequence.

While Shiatsu has roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it’s now practiced throughout the world.

Shiatsu is traditionally done on a low massage table or on a mat on the floor, no massage oil is used, so it is usually done with the client fully clothed in loose, comfortable clothing. At Earth-Moon Acupuncture we offer Shiatsu on a lowered massage table.

Shiatsu massage therapy helps boost the immune system, improving the body’s ability to heal itself. It also stimulates the systems of the body; including the circulatory, lymphatic and hormonal systems.

Shiatsu is best used to treat stubborn knots, sports injuries, and back pain, the pressure used can help trigger the release of chemicals, like cortisone, that help the body heal itself.

Shiatsu Massage appointments run for 75 minutes individual and package rates available upon request.
